RCN Forums - tackling homelessness

1. Introduction

Tackling homelessness and supporting people experiencing homelessness is an important issue for nursing. Many nursing staff work directly with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness and nursing staff working across all settings will likely come into contact with and care for people experiencing homelessness. At Congress 2024, RCN members passed a resolution calling for the RCN to lobby the government to mandate specialist accessible health care for people who experience rough sleeping.

With rates of homelessness increasing in England, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) (the parliamentary committee that looks at the value for money of the Government’s work/programmes) is holding an inquiry into the effectiveness of policies to tackle homelessness.

The RCN is asking for feedback and ideas from members who work with people experiencing homelessness and/or with people who may be at risk of homelessness to inform our response to this inquiry.
